The Fort Benning Sergeants Major Association offers Scholarship Awards to deserving students. The awards are given in the memory of retired CSM Eddie L. Roberts, a Vietnam veteran whose three-decade career was mirrored only by the countless contributions he made to the welfare of the local tri-community.   CSM Roberts was a beloved figure on Fort Benning and around the Chattahoochee Valley who championed numerous community and civic causes while working tirelessly to support Soldiers and Families.   He died July 6, 2011 after suffering cardiac arrest.

Roberts was affiliated with a multitude of civic organizations. Among them were American Legion Post 267, the Fort Benning Sergeants Major Association, 100 Black Men of Columbus and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He also was board president for the House of Restoration in Phenix City, which assists veterans and the homeless.

A candidate must be a child or step-child of a present or former member of the Military Services.

The first selection priority will be given to children who lost a parent in service of the Military Services.

The second selection priority will be given to children of those incapacitated by wounds or injury while serving in the Military Services.

Interruption of studies due to sickness or severe hardship may be basis for maintaining the unused portion in a committed status.  Cases of this nature will be reviewed by the committee as needed and presented to the Board for final decision.

All scholarship funds with accumulated interest remain the sole resources of the Scholarship Fund until disbursed.  All scholarship disbursements will be made to the educational institution after being advised of the recipients enrollment in good standing as a full time student and a remittance address for scholarship payment.
