The Fort Benning Sergeants Major Association is a non-profit, tax exempt private organization not affiliated with Fort Benning or the Department of Defense.

Members of the Fort Benning chapter of the Sergeants Major Association helped repair the Columbus home of Mary Linn in October. Linn is the widow of SSG(R) Darvin Linn, who served in four major campaigns in Vietnam and retired after more than 23 years of service. The project included repairing walls and the ceiling, installing storm windows, cleaning the yard and painting the house. House of Heroes is a community program that provides free home repairs for elderly or disabled military and public safety veterans and their spouses as a way of saying “thank you” for their sacrifices.

The Fort Benning Sergeants Major Association sponsored a House of Heroes project on October 9, 2010 for Mr. Jose and Mrs. Nilda Cardona-Senati.   Jose is 82 and his wife Nilda is 77.  CSM (R) Cardona retired from active duty in 1970 with 24 yearrs of service and served in WW II, the Korean War and Vietnam.
